Editorial Internship — Polygon (Summer 2018)

I am currently working in Vox Media's New York City office as an editorial intern at Polygon. As a Polygon intern, I write for the Polygon website covering topics related to video games, entertainment, and the culture surrounding them. I work most frequently in covering topics pertaining to entertainment (including anime).

Entertainment Media Internship — GLAAD (Summer 2017)

During the summer of 2017, I was granted the opportunity to move to Los Angeles for the summer and work as an Entertainment Media intern at GLAAD's LA office. GLAAD is the nation's largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization and works to accelerate acceptance of LGBTQ individuals through fair and accurate representation in the media. As an Entertainment Media intern, my responsibilities included watching and analyzing TV shows like Kingdom (Audience), The Night Shift (NBC), and Midnight, Texas (NBC) for their portrayal of LGBTQ characters, writing about entertainment news and topics in LGBTQ representation for the GLAAD blog, and helping to conduct research for GLAAD's Where We Are On TV report and other assorted projects.

While at GLAAD, I wrote two op-ed pieces that were published on the GLAAD blog. The first is about the sports anime Yuri!!! On Ice and the importance of positive LGBTQ representation in entertainment media. This article was also unofficially translated into Japanese by twitter user abyssin2011.  The second is about the recent release of the Legend of Korra follow up comic book "The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars (Part One)" and improvements made in LGBTQ representation in all-ages programming.

My complete list of writings for the GLAAD blog can be accessed here.

Columnist — Minnesota Daily (Fall 2017 —)

I began working as a columnist at the Minnesota Daily, the University of Minnesota's student newspaper, at the start of the Fall 2017 semester. In general, the majority of my writing is centered around social issues, and in particular issues pertaining to LGBTQ advocacy, feminism, and entertainment.

Some of my favorite columns that I've written for the Daily are about the need to have candid discussions about female sexuality, the necessity of intersex inclusion and advocacy in LGBTQ spaces, and National Coming Out Day.

My full body of work for the MN Daily can be accessed here.
